Victorian Covent Garden Walk Reviews

Extremely interesting and enjoyable walk. Learnt a great deal. Hazel is charming and very informative and has a relaxed manner. So good to learn so many interesting facts. The time passed so quickly. Although this lasts the usual 1 hour 30 minutes the walking is kept to a minimum as there is so much to see in a small area so would recommend this walk for anyone with mobility issues who don’t want to walk too far but want to go on a walk. Will be looking forward to the next walk.

Hazel is a first-class guide, very informative and full of interesting facts. I am looking forward to another walk in the near future. A Pultney

The walks are always professionally run, well-researched and conducted with a genuine enthusiasm for
the subject. Oxenham

Had a great time and learnt lots. Hazel is a very knowledgeable guide and very enthusiastic about her subject. She always takes you to interesting places with great stories to tell. D Banks

Have now been on three of these walks with Hazel, and am hugely impressed. No matter the theme - and the three I've been on are Christmas Lights, Victorian Covent Garden, and Heretics & Horrors. Each time, she's led us off the beaten track and regaled us with stories I haven't heard before - and I've been on quite a few London walks. Not only that, but she does it with a sense of humour and a knack for entertaining. She has an encyclopedic knowledge, and an obvious love of history and of the city she knows so well. An absolute delight for anyone that also loves it. Cat

Fascinating walk - very informative. I thought I knew London but Hazel’s knowledge and enthusiasm
made me realise how much of its history and architecture I have yet to discover.

This is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours looking at streets and buildings you may have walked past hundreds of times without noticing or not knowing the history. Hazel is very upbeat, shares her knowledge well and makes it very interesting. The walk is not long, but a few cobblestones, so wear comfortable shoes. Lizzy C

I have done a few of Hazel's walks: Wonders of Whitehall, Oliver Twist and Victorian Soho and Covent Garden. They are a fantastic way of learning more about the city, bring history to life and finding hidden gems that you wouldn't otherwise notice or appreciate. Hazel is very friendly and has a great knowledge of London and is clearly passionate about what she does. I've enjoyed the tours so much that I am taking my parents on the Royal London walk when they visit. Tracy S

What a fascinating talk about the origins of some of the West End's most iconic landmarks such as Charing Cross. I've seen parts of Covent Garden that I didn't even know existed. Our guide, Hazel, was brilliant - very funny and entertaining. Her background knowledge is really impressive. The only downside was the weather but there's no controlling that! I would certainly recommend this walk. You will learn so much. I will never again walk past the bridge in Villiers Street without looking up and seeing a railway carriage! All will be explained on the tour! J Warner

This is a wonderful tour! Hazel, our guide, was very personable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. As we walked through the lanes and alleyways of Covent Garden and Soho, she told delightful and entertaining stories of Victorian London. A truly unusual way to spend a rainy evening and I would thoroughly recommend it (whatever the weather!). Janet W

Well worth venturing out on even the rainiest colder than usual nights. Hazel's knowledge, delivery and enthusiasm make this experience akin to an immersive art and architecture event. Stories and secrets of London are revealed and a new intimate relationship can begin with an expanded heart and brighter eyes. Bravo Hazel! Margot

We thought we knew this area reasonably well, being Londoners and regulars in the West End for theatre trips and other entertainments. We were amazed at how many sights we have previously walked past without ever knowing the amazing and sometimes curious history. This tour taught us a lot about the incredible Victorians and their contribution to the everyday comforts we enjoy now. All presented in a friendly and entertaining style far removed from my memories of school history lessons (which I enjoyed, but this is much more fun!). Highly recommended, our 3rd tour with Hazel. We enjoyed the time spent with Hazel our humorous and knowledgeable tour guide. She really brought
that period in history to life. We most certainly will book more guided walks. Gelinka

A delightful tour full of fascinating insights into a part of London I thought I knew reasonably well before I set out on this tour. This walk made me realise how much I hadn't noticed as I walked around and will change the way you look at these places forever. The guide here is not only extremely knowledgeable and engaging but is also extremely helpful and caters for a wide range of individual requirements. A top tip for anyone in London with a couple of hours to spare. S Suffolk

Rated : StarStarStarStarStarA very enjoyable walking tour of the Covent Garden area. I've lived in London for thirty years and it was interesting to hear new facts about some very familiar places. Heather was an engaging and informative guide. It was a nice sunny day, but I think that this tour would have equally enjoyable on a rainy one.

Rated : StarStarStarStarStarHazel is a very good tour guide and very friendly. The tour was very interesting and we discovered things about areas of London that we had walked past but not realise the history as well as discovering some back streets with fascinating history. I highly recommend the londonwalkingguide.

Rated : StarStarStarStarStarThis was a fascinating tour, expertly conducted by Hazel. The walk itself was a short one, from Charing Cross station down to the embankment and up to Covent Garden. But we learned a great deal in this small geographical span. Some I knew of course, but it was good to see in the context of other things that I didn’t know. Gatti, the Italian Swiss entrepreneur was quite new to me. Also the Catholic Church off Covent Garden! Definitely going back there. Strongly recommend it

Rated : StarStarStarStarStarI have joined a few London Guides and have to say that Hazel's walks are my favourite. Her passion for the diverse locations and her knowledge of their history, keeping up-to-date with any changes in this ever changing town; her homework and professionalism mixed with friendliness and regard for every person having a question ... In a nutshell: you "need" to join her walks, especially as a Londoner. Unfortunately, TripAdvisor only allows repeated reviews of an organization/tour/event etc. every 6 months, so, I'm sorry Hazel, I'll leave a review after the 6 months. Audience Club members, go on a LondonGuidedWalks.co.uk tour, you'll discover the passion for and of a city.
