Victorian Covent Garden Walk

The age of improvement is upon us

Embark on this 90-minute guided walk exploring the age of improvement. We delve into the underworld of Music Halls, the introduction of ice cream to the masses and the fortitude of Victorian engineering.

Your professional tour guide will help you master the back alleys, away from the wide shopping street you can easily imagine the characters who lived and worked in the area.

You will explore some of the beautifully maintained Victorian gardens, discover their hidden secrets before venturing through some residential streets, once the homes for artists Samuel Clarkson and William Etty and workplaces for literature giants Rudyard Kipling and Charles Dickens.

Stand where the Thames used to dominate, take in the messy madness of one of the most famous London markets and count the fair maidens on the way.

This is the fourth walk I have taken with Hazel. All have been so interesting! The time just runs by and I arrive hom a much better informed Londoner.

I have joined a few London Guides and have to say that Hazel's walks are my favourite. Her passion for the diverse locations and her knowledge of their history, keeping up-to-date with any changes in this ever changing town; her homework and professionalism mixed with friendliness and regard for every person having a question ... In a nutshell: you "need" to join her walks, especially as a Londoner. Unfortunately, TripAdvisor only allows repeated reviews of an organization/tour/event etc. every 6 months, so, I'm sorry Hazel, I'll leave a review after the 6 months. Audience Club members, go on a LondonGuidedWalks.co.uk tour, you'll discover the passion for and of a city.

What a fascinating talk about the origins of some of the West End's most iconic landmarks such as Charing Cross. I've seen parts of Covent Garden that I didn't even know existed. Our guide, Hazel, was brilliant - very funny and engaging. Her background knowledge is really impressive. The only downside was the weather but there's no controlling that! I would certainly recommend this walk.

in a freezing windy day, we had a very interesting walk with Hazel which made us forget about the cold. Very informative and good fun walk, full of anecdotes and facts. We walked through all the little alleyways we had never explored before, understanding more about the victorians and London geography

Wonderful Tour! Hazel, our guide, was very personable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. As we walked through the lanes and alleyways of Covent Garden, she told delightful stories of Victorian London. A truly unusual way to spend a rainy evening and I would thoroughly recommend it.

A fascinating look around parts of the West End. We were very surprised by how many interesting buildings and features we have regularly walked past without knowing their interesting history. Educational and fun, lead by the friendly and knowledgeable guide.

As usual, Hazel's walking tours are definitely among the most enjoyable ones. She has good knowledge of the history of the areas where the tour takes place. Her story telling makes the tour most enjoyable and helps the facts engrave in one's mind. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn more about London in a different way that visiting a museum or reading history books.

Very interesting walk through Charing Cross and Covent Garden. We learned many things en route. Altogether a very entertaining and energetic walk - a tad too fast perhaps, for those with walking impediments?

Fun and informative walk even on a cold Sunday lunchtime. Hazel was very knowledgeable about the area and pointed out many things that I hadn't noticed before around Charing Cross and Covent Garden. Her storytelling and humour made the whole walk very enjoyable.

This was a very interesting walk that included historical and also thought provoking aspects of Victorian life. The Guide was lovely - very personable and inclusive. Although it was a chilly the 90 minutes flew by. I would attend another of her walks and recommend the company to others.
