Sadler’s Wells - A Circular Guided Walk

On this guided walk we take you back to the days when the surrounding area had a raucous reputation and see how it transformed from a place to be avoided at all costs to a most desirable postcode.

Sadler’s Wells Theatre is a world leader in contemporary dance. Half a million people come to see a performance at Sadler’s Wells’ theatres each year. The now world famous site had, however, a less salubrious in the past which we explore further on this guided tour. Not wheelchair accessible.

London Guided Walks - Sadlers Wells in Clerkenwell

What people have said:

“Sadler's Wells”

"I have done a few of Hazel's tours; she is always full of interesting facts and anecdotes. This walk does not have the grandeur of the City or the splendor of Hampstead but it was nonetheless brought to life with attention drawn to architecture and I particularly loved the tale of the peelers waiting for the ne'er do wells down an alley near to the end of the walk." “Sadler's Wells Walk”

I really enjoyed this walk. Hazel has lots of great information and presents it in a fun way. I had never explored this area before and found the history fascinating. I would definitely do another walk with Hazel.

“Sadlers Wells walk”

Fascinating walk around Clerkenwell which introduced me to a hidden area of London I didn't know at all despite knowing all the main roads in the same area. Great leader, friendly, knowledgeable and humorous. I would thoroughly recommend and will be joining more walks to explore more secret corners of London.

“Sadler's Wells with Hazel”

Hazel was an excellent guide - she was well-informed, humorous and enthusiastic. She knew the area extremely well and made it and its history come alive for everyone, I believe. I had a guest from Rotterdam who extended her stay in London to go on this Guided Walk and she, too, was delighted by all she heard and saw.

“Sadlers Wells Circular Guided Walk”

Hazel was witty and informative as she led us on a magical walk starting and finishing at the Sadler Wells theatre. Behind the busy Rosebury Road underneath which still flows the New River, is a little known part of London filled with C18th and C19th squares and buildings. It was revealing and inspiring.
