Georgian Walk Reviews

An excellent informative and very interesting walk with Hazel; delivered with enthusiasm and at just the right pace. Melanie M

Such a great walk! Hazel, the tour guide, really brings the area to life with her descriptions and commentary. Her keen sense of humour and comparisons to modern day living stick in the mind long after the tour ends. I'm still giggling over Jo Grimaldi being the winner of the Regency 'Islington's Got Talent!' and I love the story of Dick Sadler finding a well in his beer garden and turning it into his USP! Thank you Hazel. I now see Georgian London with new eyes. Jan K

Hazel is welcoming - entertaining - informative - excellent walk leader. Aimed more at English audience - not as suitable for internationals. Georgina Y

A great walk as usual, very lively and interesting. Claudine D

Good interesting walk with refreshing information. Roy C

Another excellent walk with Hazel. Such a high standard as I have come to expect. Hazel is so engaging and entertaining. She really enthuses about the area and provides so much information. The amount of detail is outstanding. I had previously attended a walk around Clerkenwell and thought there might be some overlap but this was completely different focusing on the Georgians. All though I learnt a great deal on a previous walk I did prefer this one as it was a lot shorter 105 minutes compared to 160 minutes and it ended close to the Angel tube. On Hazel’s tours no time is wasted. Everyone should try at least one of Hazel’s tours as you learn so much in parts of London you may not have visited before. You won’t be disappointed. Ian A

As ever, Hazel’s walk was informative and fun (in spīte of pouring rain) and our leader very professional. Ruth G

An interesting walk around Islington and Clerkenwell. Catherine B

A really interesting and entertaining walk. I would recommend.. Geoffrina S

Excellent tour guide. Very informative and it is amazing the things we just don't really take any notice of but have been there since the 1700's in many Georgian streets. Susan Shah

This is the third walk I have been on with Hazel and I am already looking forward to the next one. I know London and its history well but she never fails to amaze me. As entertaining as it is enlightening and highly recommended. Carol L

A lovely walk and most informative. Hazel is very interesting and delivers talks with great enthusiasm and knowledge. Our first walk - will look out for others... Fred and Helen T

A very interesting walk around a less well known part of London. Sue and Brian S

I very much enjoyed this very informative and interesting guided walk. Hazel obviously is well studied and enjoys history, and the ability to share it with others. I especially loved the little ‘insider stories’, the ones not part of ‘proper history books’. Good pace and just the right amount of information to keep it interesting. Definitely recommended. Stephen and Maria H

Fascinating walk with Hazel who brings history alive with her great storytelling and depth of knowledge. Diana H

Hazel was excellent and I learnt a lot about Georgian history. Marian T

Being a great admirer of Georgian architecture I really looked forward to this walk. I wasn't disappointed. A brittle blustery day we strode after Hazel our fearless tour guide as she explained the wide girth of the roads and junctions of modern Islington, drawing the skeins of time back in our minds so that we were transported to horses and carriages and noise and clatter of those far off days. We explored parts of the Regency Canal, and the history behind Sadlers Wells . The one and a half hour was crammed full of tales, and humour backed up with a solid foundation and enthusiasm of such an interesting part of London. Virginia D

That was my second walk with Hazel and once again her passion and incredible knowledge made this tour of Georgian Islington outstanding. I totally get why her tours sell out at speed of light and will definitely try and see more of London with her. Simonetta P

Excellent as are all of Hazel’s walks. Jane B

A delightful walk, with some fascinating insights, delivered, as ever, with great enthusiasm.

From the outset it was easy to find the welcoming and effervescent Hazel. On a bright and blustery winter's day there was just the right amount of walking and looking, and stopping and listening. Hazel's knowledge of Islington, and indeed London history (and current events) went well beyond the subject of the walk; you learnt a lot without it feeling like a lecture. It was easy to talk with other people in the group, so you got another set of perspectives on London. Whether you were a Londoner born and bred, or a temporary visitor, there was something for everyone. All in all, a great afternoon out. Barbara D

A very informative and interesting guided walk. Hazel really opens your eyes and gives you a new perspective on an area. Good pace and just the right amount of information to keep it interesting. Definitely recommended. Mary Francis

Hazel was friendly, professional and amusing. Her walk was extremely interesting as I regularly work in Angel on Colebrooke row. Despite this she showed me a different side of Islington and Clerkenwell. Some of the houses we saw on Duncan Terrace, Myddleton square and Lloyd Baker square were to die for and the new river head info. Area was a real find. Sam M

Very enjoyable walk, Hazel makes it interesting and fun. Anon

One of the best uses I have made of a weekend in London. Stephen M

A Sunday morning walk through the back doubles of Clerkenwell: friendly, informative and pleasurable. Saskia H

Another fabulous walk given by Hazel. She knows her stuff and is always willing to answer questions. Sharon M

Interesting, informative, entertaining. A bit cold to be doing a lot of standing for over an hour and a half. Gill B

Most enjoyable, informative and concise. The 90 minute ambles were well worth going on. I thought I knew both of these areas well but almost every aspect of the tours provided me with new information presented in a fun, interesting and joined up way. I would not normally go on this type of walk but I strongly recommend this. Hazel is an excellent guide and has a wealth of relevant background information to supplement any query. I am going back to some of the other tours.

Hazel is a terrific guide and provides a really interesting insight into the Georgian period of life in London. She is extremely knowledgeable and communicates Her subject passionately. Lots to discover! I was particularly interested to see how astute she was about securing the live time information about a film shoot that was taking place enroute - great for photo opportunities and an added treat to an excellent afternoon. Alistair from South London

Once again a fantastic walk with Hazel. I had no knowledge at all about this area and was fascinated to hear all that Hazel had to tell us. Hazel is a brilliant guide who is obviously passionate about her subjects. Highly recommended. Cathy T, Hammersmith

Despite the weather proving extremely cold I really enjoyed this walk. Hazel was passionate about the history of this part of London but also brought in contemporary references. I learned a lot of interesting things and will definitely go back to this area to explore in my own time. Hazel was able to conjure up bygone eras in a fascinating tour. Kathryn R

Hazel was an excellent guide - she was well-informed, humorous and enthusiastic. She knew the area extremely well and made it and its history come alive for everyone, I believe. I had a guest from Rotterdam who extended her stay in London to go on this Guided Walk and she, too, was delighted by all she heard and saw.

I really enjoyed this walk. Hazel has lots of great information and presents it in a fun way. I had never explored this area before and found the history fascinating. I would definitely do another walk with Hazel.

Fascinating walk around Clerkenwell which introduced me to a hidden area of London I didn't know at all despite knowing all the main roads in the same area. Great leader, friendly, knowledgeable and humorous. I would thoroughly recommend and will be joining more walks to explore more secret corners of London.

I have done a few of Hazel's tours; she is always full of interesting facts and anecdotes. This walk does not have the grandeur of the City or the splendor of Hampstead but it was nonetheless brought to life with attention drawn to architecture and I particularly loved the tale of the peelers waiting for the ne'er do wells down an alley near to the end of the walk.
