A taste of old Europe in London

As a tour guide I am often asked where to eat in London. Having worked and lived in central London for many years I have been fortunate to have sampled many a menu. The Delaunay is a treat.
The restaurant is the latest project from Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, famous for the Wolseley. You don't have to cross the Channel for a taste of old Europe. The main dining room is superb, panelled and spacious. We very much enjoyed our table (no. 14) which meant we could sit next to one another rather than from across each other meaning it felt intimate, especially as we were facing away from the rest of the restaurant.
What to choose from the menu
Surrounded by schnitzel eaters it was hard not to follow the crowd. The service was friendly and efficient. We very much enjoyed the kedgeree and the grilled spatchcock chicken with some wilted veg to share. The chicken was moist and full of flavour. We shared chocolate and hazel gugelhupf which came with an enormous amount of whipped cream. The coffee is robust but smooth, a pleasant end to a delicious and light lunch.
If you are looking for something a little less formal or perhaps on the hoof then I would suggest The Delaunay Counter; serving the same smooth and robust coffee and delicious cakes as the The Delaunay but more practical light bites including hot savoury strudels.
